Last night, as we were walking back to our hotel from Myeongdong street, @afifchad and I were attacked by an old man screaming things like terrorist, the CIA & even called me a b*tch. I remained calm and looked for the nearest public place. We were so lucky that there was a coffee shop nearby. Even so, that man followed us into the coffee shop (still screaming). He left moments later when we chose to ignore him and pretended to order something from the shop. I was so so scared. Full story on my Instagram stories.

Islamophobia is real & unnecessary. My point of sharing my story is not to scare you off coming to Seoul, it’s so that you can be precautious. Maybe this happened to me so I can share my experience with my #FaaFam 🥺 This is my second time here, the first time I was here for 10 days, and now 7 days. MOST of them are very friendly and helpful, unfortunately some of them aren’t. Maybe they haven’t met muslims outside mainstream media.

I can choose to sulk and be mean today. But instead I remind myself that because it’s uncommon to see muslims in Seoul, it’s my job as a hijabi, as a muslim to set a good example. If I were to be mean to them, it will only create a chain effect and confirm their theory that “all muslims are terrorists” - know what I mean? .
.
Though it’s not always sunshine and rainbows, I would do it all again, see different parts of the world in a heartbeat. I bring home both good and bad memories. The good ones keep me wanting more whereas the bad ones just makes me stronger.

For all the ladies and muslims everywhere, if this were to happen to any of you, here’s what you need to do:

1. Avoid eye contact
2. Remain calm
3. Find the nearest public space
4. Order an uber or call anyone you know and inform them of what’s happened. Stay inside until your friend or family reach your location.

Other tips: Dont go out late at night & try not to walk anywhere alone.

We have a few days left here and I just want to enjoy the days I have left in Seoul and everything it has to offer with my husband. Stay safe wherever you are ❤️ Much love, Faa.
